Little Ways to Improve Your Mental Health

Mental health is so important because it effects how we see things and live our lives everyday. Because of this, taking care of our mental health is something we have to prioritize and make steps to work on each day. I can always tell when I haven't been taking time for it, so there are lots of  things I try to do each day to take care of my mental health. Below are a few little ways to improve your mental health today.

Challenge Negative Thoughts

We all get negative thoughts from time to time whether they be negative thoughts about our body image, how others perceive us, or any other number of things. What's important is to challenge those negative thoughts because they are not true. A few ways you can challenge those thoughts are:

  • ask yourself if you would say something like that about someone you love
  • tell yourself what you would tell someone you love if they thought something like that about themselves/their situation
  • say "No, that's not true..." and then tell yourself what is true (i.e. "No, that's not true. I AM intelligent and qualified to be here.)
  • see if there's another way you could look at the situation
  • ask yourself if it will matter in 5 years from now

Record Happy Moments

There is so much power in recording happy moments and things you're grateful for. When you keep a record of them you relive those moments when you write them down and later when you look back on them. There's lots of different ways you could record happy moments like:

  • writing 3 happy moments everyday on your calendar or in your planner
  • keeping a list on your phone that you add to daily
  • daily adding happy moments to your Instagram Stories to look back on (I'm creating a highlight of all my happy moments from this month)

Find Inspiration

Whenever I find inspiration, it gets me excited about new projects and ready to live my best life. Of course, it doesn't necessarily last long, so I have to keep seeking inspiration daily to keep my enthusiasm up. Some ways I like to find inspiration include:

  1. listening to Super Soul Conversations in the morning (I'm obsessed)
  2. reading blogs
  3. Pinterest
  4. Youtube (like CambriaJoyVlogs and VasseurBeauty)
  5. spending time in nature

Practice Self-Care

Self-care seems to get equated with bath bombs and shopping sprees a lot, but it is so much more than that. Self-care is really all about taking time out of your busy schedule FOR YOU. Sometimes it can mean taking a nice bath after a hectic week. Sometimes it's showering for the first time in a couple days when you're feeling really depressed. Self-care is different for everybody and different depending on what you need at that moment. I have posts with all kinds of self-care ideas here and here. A few ways I've been practicing self-care lately though have been:

  • Taking time to blog. It's something I can put on the back burner, but it's a hobby I truly enjoy.
  • Drinking lots of water.
  • Creating and eating healthy meals.
  • Journaling.

Whether you're struggling with your mental health at the moment or just seeking to improve it a bit, I hope this post has been helpful. Remember just like any other aspect of health, you have to take care of your mental health everyday and is a lifelong process. 💕
